Here’s you will “how to change the permalinks’ structure”
First of all the question is, what are permalinks?
Permalinks are the words that make your blog post link with the name of your domain, which must be search engine friendly. Permalinks in WordPress, usually when we install this CMS it contains a default permalink structures that is “yourdomain.com/?p=123” (that will not be recommended by me)
If you are looking to make your website search engine friendly you must have to change your permalink structure. That will help the search engine crawlers to find your website in response of your targeted key phrases.
Here’s a simple example of search engine friendly and non-search friendly permalink structure. If you blog post title is “WordPress Tutorials for Beginners” that would also be your keyword your permalinks must look like: www.yourdomainname.com/wordpress-tutorials-beginners (that would not contain stop words like the, for, a, with, to, etc.)
You must tell the search engine what the URL is about and it is possible with the above given format.
So, now you know about the permalink and the best permalink structures that may grab more traffic on your website.
Here’s how to change permalink structure on your WordPress website?
In order to edit permalink you have to go in Settings >> Permalinks. Here you can change the permalink structure where you will see different option but you need to choose the best one.
To make your work easier you may create an “.htaccess” file.
To do that you must have FileZilla software to be installed that will help you in the file you are going to upload. If you don’t have the program, search it in Google and install it.
To create a “.htaccess” file, right click >> click on New >>> click on Text Document.
Login to your FTP program and find the location of your WordPress file then go got the main or root directory drag and drop the text file to the main directory.
Change the name of text document with “.htaccess” and that’s it.
Now right click on file permission. Change the numbers to 777 then click on Okay.
Now go to your WordPress Dashboard and change permalink structure click on Save Changes, the structure has been updated.
Now again go to “.htaccess” file, right click on it and again choose file permission and change the number with 644, and that’s it!
Congratulations! Your permalinks structure has changed and it’s more search engine friendly.
