Torrentfreak reported WordPress has taken a serious step and demanded $10,000 in return to cover indemnities suffered complete an unlawful DMCA takedown notice.
WordPress took stand against copyright holders who abuse the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown process. The procedure is injured when people appeal the takedown lawful material.
Over the past year Automattic the company behind the WordPress notice a rapid increase in DMCA takedown, but still there are some of the sources that are involved to abuse the process.
This claim shoots from a specific event in November 2013 in which a person didn’t escalate being quoted in a web content, and delivered a wrong takedown demand to have it uninvolved. In response, a right was filed and WordPress confidences to be remunerated for the harm produced by the false takedown appeal.
WordPress official explained in the court that as one of the famous and largest online service provider they face “overwhelming and crippling copyright liability” if they flopped to take down the content effected with DMCA. Those who exploitation takedown appeals because they need to cut opponents or rivals have to be stopped.
In case the court accept the WordPress request, a total of $10,000 in damages and $14,520 in lawyers’ fees will be paid by the consequences to false DMCA takedown requests.
